About TRwBB

This is not my primary blog.

However, comma.

My primary blog gets many, many hits every month from everyday people, as well as teachers, looking to teach reading using Bob Books. This blog is devoted to answering one question: How does Brandy teach reading with Bob Books?

I cannot tell you how everyone does it, but I can tell you how I do it.

If you stick around long enough, you will also realize that my method is something that can be used with any book you own, or even a sentence you write on a piece of paper. My purpose here is not just to "teach reading with Bob Books," but to teach you how to easily teach reading in the general sense. A secondary purpose is to teach you to love good books and discover that bad books (and there are such things as bad books) taste bad--hence my occasional "good books" post.

Posted lessons are categorized by day and also by student. So far, I have notes up concerning three students, Neighbor M. (who has since moved out of the neighborhood), Daughter A., and, most recently, Daughter Q. The idea in posting the same days for different students is to show how lessons can be tailored to the pace of individual students.

I am currently in the process of reorganizing the lesson posts. I received a complaint that this blog was difficult to navigate, and after giving it some thought, I completely agree. So I am revamping. It is the same information, but hopefully it'll be easier to locate what you, the reader, is looking for. My renovation process officially began on 10/20/11, and as there are over 200 posts for me to look at and rewrite, re-post, or discard, I am sure you understand that this will take a while.

In the meantime, here are my tips on getting the most out of this site.

First, you need to understand that this blog was originally a journal of what I was doing with my reading students. The original posts were categorized by day {this made more sense when the students had received fewer than 50 lessons} and by student (I've recorded the lessons for three students so far, Neighbor M., and my girls, Daughter A. and Daughter Q.). I later added the coded book labels, and these are the labels I am keeping.

Here is a graphic to help you out:

As you can see, the first number (or letter) is the Bob Books set number. Sets are number 1 through 5, while the Kindergarten Sight Words set uses K, and the First Grade Sight Words set uses FG. The second number is the number of the book from that particular set. Some sets have 12 books while others only have 8. The code in the book above stands for "Set 1, Book 2."

As you can see, you can easily use the codes to locate all of the lessons for a given book. I am rewriting and re-posting old lesson posts so that each post contains all of the lessons that a student was given for a certain book. There will be multiple posts per book, each one representing a different student (which will enable you to see how all of the lessons I give are the same, and yet tailored to each student individually).

Please browse the other labels also, as they contain valuable information on how to get the most out of what we are doing.
