Blend #1: ook

Because oo can make two separate sounds, I like to save introducing oo for oo as in moo and boo and zoo. For the short-oo sound, I introduce it in the blend ook.

If that makes sense.

This time, we'll turn to our blends section and we'll draw a little chart:

ook
_____
look
took
book
nook
We have an area in our house we call the Play Nook, so that last word works well for us.

Simply tell them that ook says ook, and then help them sound out the words. Because these are one-syllable words, they tend to be easy for the children to pick up. Remind the student that they'll be using what they learn in the day's lesson.

The end.

Seriously.

Sometimes it is that simple.
